HERE If you took away the seasons And gave me only Winter There would still be Summer in my heart ‘Cause every waking hour Of every day I’m given The minute-hand goes back up to the start And I remember I’m here I’ve been getting up quite early And watching from the window Birds and other creatures of the sky And making cups of coffee And washing-up the dishes And giving things I want to do a try And I remember I’m here To the East, and to the West I can see the sky The trees are green and heavy And everything is growing And I don’t have a road-map anymore There’s a Bullfinch flying round me And there’s traffic in the distance All of us got washed-up on this shore And I’ve remembered I’m here (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Pete Millson

SUN GOES DOWN Woken by the dawn Alarm bells ringing in my heart Bells are ringing Like a trick of the dark I was in a dream I’m always in a dream Filled with meaning And familiar themes Every time the sun goes down My heart goes to ground Every time the sun goes down In the shadows I can hear My nemesis is near Here comes trouble Things are getting weird And it never makes a sound And it’s moving all around Always watching And waiting to be found Every time the sun goes down My heart goes to ground Every time the sun goes down To burn away the darkness I need sun To bring me back the days And take this night away Every time the sun goes down My heart goes to ground Every time the sun goes down Every time the sun goes down (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Pete Millson

IT COMES AND IT GOES You save the best ’til last Why you do you never ask As if there’s somewhere you should be As if a destination’s gonna set you free And well you know It comes and it goes And it keeps you on your toes It comes and it goes We could spend a year in vain Drawing the conclusion that it all looks the same But even now it’s true It lights up your day when you find something new And well you know It comes and it goes And it keeps you on your toes It comes and it goes Fanfare for the Common Man plays high Days upon the calendar go by Song for a Friend plays low It comes and it goes It comes and it goes And well you know It comes and it goes And it keeps you on your toes It comes and it goes It comes and it goes It comes and it goes It comes and it goes (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Pete Millson

IN THE REAL WORLD This is a fine location I’m loving all the light Woke up this morning And everything was right I made some bread with my hands And read about a band It may be 6.00 a.m. But I know where I stand In the real world I’ve got things to do In the real world And I want to share this world with you I’m learning all about The records that I love I’m making new ones too It’s a lot of fun I see the birds outside Working on a theme Of all the things I’ve tried Living is a dream In the real world I’ve got things to do In the real world And I want to share this world with you Tell me what you did Are you ringing any bells? I see you racing through the day I hope it’s going well It’s such a long, long way From where I used to be And now I know that What you get it what you see In the real world I’ve got things to do In the real world And I want to share this world with you (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Pete Millson

SUMMER IN SEPTEMBER Summer in September Buzzards overhead We were looking into the water And watching for signs We were looking for signs We were looking for signs Lying in the cornfield Just me and the boy Then on down to the ocean Where the water is always clear We were looking for signs We were looking for signs And we’re walking Blindfold in the dark On the surface of things Walking forwards in time Remembering We were looking for signs We were looking for signs We were looking for signs We were looking for signs Summer in September Buzzards overhead (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Elliot Millson

FIND OUR WAY Seems like everybody lost their way Always looking for better days When we were younger We could always Find our way All the birds are singing in the trees And I’m down here praying on my knees When we were younger We could always Find our way I’ve been making my way round Round and round I go Running on fear But maybe I’m not lost Maybe I’m not lost Maybe I’m here Seems like everybody lost their way Always looking for better days When we were younger We could always Find our way When we were younger We could always Find our way When we were younger We could always Find our way (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Elliot Millson

LIKE A RAIN There’s a fog all over town Like a rain that won’t come down Doesn’t seem to know Doesn’t seem to go Spending days out wandering Don’t remember where I’ve been I don’t need to know Where it is I go to Isn’t it obvious? Isn’t it obvious? There’s just the two of us Same as it ever was Isn’t it obvious? Isn’t it obvious? There’s just the two of us There’s a fog all over town Like a rain that won’t come down Everywhere you go Is everywhere I go (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Elliot Millson

NO WAY TO LIVE Don’t look me up Don’t leave me clues ‘Cause I’m like a firework And you light the fuse Don’t walk this way Don’t take the time ‘Cause I’m always looking And I can read the signs Watching and waiting And wondering who you’re with Is no way to live It’s no way to live Watching and waiting And wondering who you’re with Is no way to live The sun coming out Is Winter’s reprieve But there’s snow upon the pavement And a heart still on my sleeve Watching and waiting And wondering who you’re with Is no way to live It’s no way to live It’s no way to live It’s no way to live (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Pete Millson

MAGPIE’S EYE I’ve been looking In all the usual Found nothing that my heart can defend But I keep on going Keep a lid on It’s always fine in the end I’m making up the rules Putting up with fools Making spirits rise With a Magpie’s eye Other people They’ve been looking And laying-out the treasure they’ve found And I’m taking From the table The things that make my own heart resound I’m putting up with fools Breaking all the rules Making spirits rise With a Magpie’s eye You’ll never know What you’re gonna find With your Magpie’s eye All the silver In the lining Something in the clouds caught my eye And I’m stealing Inspiration ‘Cause you gotta have wings to fly I’m breaking all the rules Keeping up with fools Making spirits rise With a Magpie’s eye (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Elliot Millson

AUTUMN LEAVES The trees let go The leaves come down An acorn grows Into nature’s crown A crown of thorns A flock of birds The leaves arranged Forming words And here is Sunday morning Autumn leaves are falling And here is Sunday morning Autumn leaves are falling And you had lived And it was real And love is still The thing I feel (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Elliot Millson

LEADING ME Every morning I can see my life Out in front of my eyes it’s a beautiful sight It’s leading me somewhere It’s leading me somewhere How am I to know which way to go? That’s the way I used to feel, I know It’s leading me somewhere It’s leading me somewhere Here is where I’d like to stay And here is where I am And it’s leading me somewhere Broken pieces everywhere And days you can’t control It’s leading me somewhere Now, Is there any point at all to life? Well, that depends on whether you’re alive It’s leading you somewhere Here is where I’d like to stay And here is where I am And it’s leading me somewhere Broken pieces everywhere And days you can’t control It’s leading you somewhere I can hear the call It’s there for one and all It’s leading me Here is where I’d like to stay And here is where I am And it’s leading me somewhere Broken pieces everywhere And days you can’t control It’s leading you somewhere I forgot to mention something good It doesn’t really matter what you do It’s leading you somewhere It’s leading you somewhere It’s leading you somewhere (Reveal Publishing) - Peter James Millson / The Accidental Image (c) Elliot Millson

about

The idea was to spend the year producing other people, playing on and mixing other people’s music: I’d had enough of writing and performing. I loved nothing better than finding rogue resonant frequencies in bad acoustic guitar recordings. So that’s what I did. I produced three records for artist friends, mixed various tracks for people, and an old school friend got in touch because he needed some loud guitar on his new record, so I did that, too.
I was very comfortable with how things seemed to bounce from one thing to another. Only, in November 2020, I looked around and found that I’d inexplicably and surreptitiously written and recorded seven new songs. I was even more surprised to find another four ideas waiting in notebooks. So I shoved it all down on ‘tape’, and stood looking at it.
I asked Tom Rose at Reveal Records if he would help me shuffle the songs into line. He said he’d like the album for his label. I’ve called it The Accidental.

about

Peter James Millson England, UK

Never pushy but rewards handsomely, with tunes that stick and insights that chime.

Runt-era Todd Rundgren, a little Emitt Rhodes and Ron Sexsmith.

Peter James Millson’s gloriously melodic 2014 debut ‘Sweet The Love That Meets Return’ (produced by Danny George Wilson) drew critical comparisons with the likes of Paddy McAloon, Jackson Browne and Roddy Frame.
